One year since the tragic death of 16 people in the fall of the canopy at the Novi Sad railway station
Students in the blockade and groups of citizens gathered in front of the Railway Station in Novi Sad, where they held a commemorative meeting and at 11:52 a.m. paid their respects in silence to the victims of the fall of the canopy at the Railway Station on November 1 last year.
In front of the Railway Station, students and citizens who arrived from different parts of the city laid wreaths and lit candles. Students and groups of citizens carried large red hearts with the names of the victims written on them.
The gathering of participants in the student organization began around 10 a.m. in the center of Novi Sad and at 15 other locations, and the columns converged on the Boulevard of Liberation, from where they started to walk towards the Railway Station.
The names of the victims were read from the stage under the canopy, and after the silence, 16 students released white doves from their hands, and citizens released 16 red heart-shaped balloons with the words "1.11."
A year after the collapse of the canopy at the Railway Station in Novi Sad, I can state that many in our society made serious and grave mistakes – myself included, said the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic.
The area around the railway station has been fenced off and a stage has been set up where a program will be held, during which speeches and a choir will be performed.
At the end of the meeting, which should end in the evening, the students in the blockade announced a walk to the Quay where a photo exhibition will be organized, roses will be thrown into the Danube and lanterns will be lit.
