Beckerath: Serbia’s Future Is in the EU, and the Time for Reforms Is Now
The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Serbia, Andreas von Beckerath, stated that the EU’s message to Serbia is simple: Serbia’s future lies in Europe, and the time for investment and reform is now.
Speaking at the presentation of the Foreign Investors Council (FIC) publication White Book 2025, he noted that the council’s members have invested more than 44 billion euros in Serbia, creating over 115,000 jobs.
“I am proud that 75% of these companies come from the European Union. Two years ago, the European Union launched the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, encouraging reforms like never before. This brought financial support, as well as access to parts of the EU’s single market, access to SEPA, and access to digital, green, and industrial transformation,” Beckerath said.
The Prime Minister of Serbia, Djuro Macut, spoke with the Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, about the measures taken by the state in order to mitigate the consequences of the application of sanctions to the Serbian Oil Industry, and they stated that the supply of energy to
The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad recalled that on September 16th , it brought charges against 13 defendants in connection with the fall of the canopy of the Railway Station in Novi Sad on November 1 last year, when 16 people were killed.
He assessed that every country that joined the European Union and embraced reforms has undergone a profound economic transformation, citing the example of Poland, where he served as ambassador before coming to Belgrade.
“Since Poland joined the European Union, its GDP has doubled. And I think an even more impressive fact is that when it joined, Poland’s GDP per capita was about 50% of the EU average, and today it is over 80%,” Beckerath stated.
