The brother of Milo Djukanovic remanded in custody for up to 30 days: Suspected of illegal possession of weapons

The investigative judge of the Basic Court in Niksic has ordered up to 30 days of detention for businessman Aco Djukanovic, the brother of former President of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic.

Djukanovic had previously been placed in custody for up to 72 hours, after police discovered several firearms, ammunition, and ballistic vests in his home in the Rastoci, neighborhood near Niksic.

According to a statement from the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Niksic, detention was ordered at the request of that office, on suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of illegal possession and carrying of weapons and explosive materials.

The detention was imposed due to the risk of flight.

"There is reasonable suspicion that  A. Dj. unlawfully kept weapons and ammunition in his house in Niksic", the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Niksic stated.

Businessman Djukanovic was brought in on Sunday for questioning before the investigative judge of the Basic Court in Niksic.

Earlier, the Montenegrin Police Directorate announced that officers from the Sector for the Fight Against Crime had conducted searches of several properties and premises owned by Djukanovic, based on warrants obtained.

During ongoing activities in the territory of Niksic, while searching the family home in the Rastoci area, police found a large quantity of firearms and ammunition.
