NIS receives approval to test an additional oil-extraction method in Velebit near Kanjiza
The Provincial Secretariat for Urban Planning and Environmental Protection approved the Environmental Impact Assessment Study by (Oil Industry of Serbia) NIS on the potential use of an additional extraction method to increase oil production.
The project concerns extraction at the Velebit oil field near Kanjiza.
The decision states that the Environmental Impact Assessment Study indicates that the proposed project does not endanger environmental factors and does not pose a threat to the environment.
It is also stated that the project holder is obliged to begin implementation, meaning construction and execution of the project, within two years of receiving this approval; otherwise, the existing environmental impact study must be updated.
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic stated that he is aware of three partners with whom the Russians are negotiating the sale of their stake in the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS), and that he hopes they will complete the transaction.
