Brnabic: We are submitting an amendment to the Budget Law that opens the possibility for Serbia to take over NIS

Brnabic said that she personally would not support the nationalization of the company NIS, but that nothing should be allowed to jeopardize the living standard and quality of life of citizens and the country’s economy.

"I would not support nationalization precisely because I am economically liberal. And that is why I am proud to be a member of the SNS, because the SNS, as a center-right party in this sense, is fully aligned with such a policy. I think that nationalization is not the right way because it opens Pandora’s box. Once you nationalize, every next time it becomes easier to say there are various interests at stake, let me nationalize again", Brnabic told Euronews.

She added that she hopes partners from the Russian Federation will take all of this into account, because, as she said, so far it seems they have not.

"We must protect, and we will protect, our citizens and our national interests. We offered them that, as a minority partner, we be the first to negotiate with them about this. We offered to participate in these discussions. Thanks to the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, his personal credibility and connections, we practically delayed the implementation of those sanctions to allow more time to find a solution", Brnabic said.

She emphasized that although she is not in favor of nationalization, she will always support the protection of national interests, and, as she said, those interests will be protected.
