He said that around 1,050,000 users have mobile phones that support the 5G network.

"In the first phase, users will notice that they can surf the internet significantly faster - they will even see at home that it’s faster than Wi-Fi. I think this will be very useful for young people who play games that require high-quality internet, and who can now play them anywhere using the 5G network. In the future, 5G means the implementation of various services based on sensors and robots that will make citizens’ lives easier", Lucic told RTS.

He emphasized that the 5G network is currently available in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis, and Kragujevac, and that Telekom plans to cover all cities in Serbia next year.

"We have started launching other cities such as Subotica, Krusevac, and Jagodina. By the end of December, we will have 1,050 stations, which is a good number for the beginning, and next year we will intensify and focus on the development of the 5G network in Serbia", Lucic said.

He pointed out that the introduction of 5G is a major opportunity for industry and that Telekom has been implementing the so-called 5G ‘standalone’ concept from the start, which he said will be important for industrial needs.

"The signal delay is even shorter, meaning the development of artificial intelligence, robots, and sensors that will use 5G will be even simpler, easier, and more efficient. This is why it is a great opportunity for industry. Large companies will be able to make their operations more efficient through 5G-based solutions, while smaller companies and startups will be able to test their solutions using 5G, so the development of this type of industry will accelerate", Lucic said.

He advised mobile phone users in Serbia to check with their operators whether their devices support 5G, noting that for older models of mobile phones, some manufacturers - such as Samsung - still have not enabled 5G functionality in Serbia.

"All phones currently sold in packages - not only by us but also by all other operators - support 5G. However, some manufacturers, especially Samsung, still have not released that function in Serbia for certain older models, so I would recommend that all users check with call centers", Lucic said.

Speaking about further investments by Telekom in the 5G network, Lucic said that everyone will be surprised by how quickly Serbia will be covered next year.

"We will have national coverage and extremely high-quality signal in large cities, because that is the challenge when it comes to 5G. If you create a service based on sensors, it works exclusively on 5G. Earlier, when you had 4G and then dropped to 3G, you will just notice slightly slower surfing. Here, the service simply will not work - every new service will require ideal 5G coverage, and Telekom Srbija will achieve that", Lucic said.
