Snow Falls at Hilandar for the First Time in Nearly 10 Years

This is a true rarity on Mount Athos and has brought great joy among the monks of the Holy Mountain.

A Newsmax Balkans reporter who witnessed the snowy moments in the region noted that all the monks, like children, were visibly delighted by the snow.

According to him, the entire monastic brotherhood said they had not seen such snow since 2017, while some experienced such a sight for the first time.

As our reporter added, one monk joyfully caught the falling snowflakes while gazing up at the sky.

Although the climate on Mount Athos is Mediterranean, winters are harsh, damp, and windy.

Hills, coves, and valleys covered with lush vegetation may occasionally turn white in winter, but snowfall of this kind is not a common occurrence.
