Trial begins in the "Generalstab" case against Minister of culture Nikola Selakovic and three others
The trial of Serbian Minister of Culture Nikola Selakovic, accused of abuse of office in the "Generalstab" case, along with three other individuals, is beginning before the Special Department for Organized Crime of the Higher Court in Belgrade.
On December 15th , 2025, the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (TOK) filed an indictment against Selakovic and three other individuals, accusing them of using their positions to exert influence or falsify documents in order to unlawfully strip the General Staff building of its status as a cultural monument.
The Secretary General of the Government of Serbia, Petar Janjic, and the Minister and Secretary General of the Government of the United Arab Emirates, Mariam Al Hammadi, signed an Agreement between Serbia and the UAE on the exchange ofexperience and the modernization of the two governments.

In addition to Selakovic, those charged include the Secretary of the Ministry of Culture Slavica Jelaca, the Acting Director of the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments Goran Vasic, and the Acting Director of the Belgrade Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments Aleksandar Ivanovic.
In addition to abuse of office, Selakovic, Slavica Jelaca, and Vasic are also charged with falsification of official documents, while Ivanovic is charged with aiding and abetting the falsification of official documents.
The prosecution is seeking prison sentences of three years for Selakovic and Vasic, two and a half years for Slavica Jelaca, and one and a half years for Ivanovic.
