Newsmax Balkans at the site of marijuana seizure in Skopje: Police operation ongoing
In a major police operation in Skopje and the Strumica region, dozens of tons of marijuana have been seized. Authorities say the operation is still ongoing and that they are coordinating with Serbia.
According to a Newsmax Balkans correspondent in Skopje, during the operation a large number of vans, trucks, and passenger vehicles exited the factory compound. The site is also registered as the headquarters of the company "Alfa Farm Doo Skopje", which is formally licensed for the production and processing of medical cannabis.
In parallel with the operation in Skopje, police activities were also carried out in the Strumica region. According to unofficial information, approximately 27 tons of marijuana were seized in total - around ten tons in Skopje, while the remaining 17 to 18 tons are linked to the Strumica area.
For now, North Macedonian authorities have not officially disclosed details of the operation, apart from confirming that police activities are ongoing.
Unofficially, the case has been linked to an earlier seizure of five tons of marijuana in Serbia, which Serbian authorities stated originated from North Macedonia.
Following that case, the Skopje prosecutor’s office opened an investigation and, as reported, remains in constant coordination with Serbian institutions.
The operation was also addressed by North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, who said in an interview with the national broadcaster that the public will receive far more information from the Ministry of Interior in the coming days.
"Citizens will witness a very serious and powerful situation. This is a continuous operation. What citizens will hear and see in the coming days will be truly catastrophic, and all those who created such policies in the past must be held accountable", Mickoski said.
The company Alfa Farm was registered in 2023 with business activities related to the cultivation and processing of plants, aromatic plants, and medicinal herbs.

The trial of Serbian Minister of Culture Nikola Selakovic, accused of abuse of office in the "Generalstab" case, along with three other individuals, is beginning before the Special Department for Organized Crime of the Higher Court in Belgrade.
The correspondent noted that around 60 companies in North Macedonia had licenses for this activity, but that approximately 14 companies have had their licenses revoked.
She added that the police operation is still ongoing and that official data are expected.
As a reminder, North Macedonian police have been conducting a large-scale marijuana seizure operation since Thursday evening, during which nearly ten tons of the drug were confiscated in Skopje.
This operation follows an incident four days earlier in Serbia, when five tons of marijuana were discovered and seized.
The drugs, as previously reported, were stored in a warehouse linked to a family in the village of Konjuh, near Krusevac.
