At a time of deep political divisions in Washington, the U.S. president delivered a State of the Union address that will be remembered as the longest in history, lasting one hour and 47 minutes.

The address in the U.S. Congress unfolded in a tense atmosphere, with around 80 Democrats from the Senate and the House of Representatives boycotting the session.

Instead of attending in the chamber, some of them organized a parallel gathering outside the United States Capitol titled “People’s State of the Union.”

With this speech, Trump surpassed the record set in 2000 by Bill Clinton, speaking nearly 20 minutes longer.

From the outset, it was clear that the address would reflect sharp political divisions. While Republicans repeatedly stood and applauded, Democrats largely remained seated, refusing to support the president’s messages, particularly those concerning deportations and border security.

At one point, Trump called Democrats "craz" for failing to stand when he urged support for measures he said were aimed at protecting American citizens from illegal migration.

The largest portion of the speech was devoted to the economy. He strongly defended his tariff policy, despite recent challenges before the Supreme Court.

He blamed the administration of former U.S. President Joe Biden for problems in the previous period, claiming that uncontrolled migrant inflows had been allowed during his term.

Incidents were also recorded during the speech: a congressman from Texas was removed from the chamber after raising a banner, while two congresswomen shouted remarks at the president.

A member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas and a member of the Democratic Party, Al Green, was escorted out of the congressional chamber after unfurling a banner reading “Blacks are not monkeys.”

Trump Presents Himself as a "Peacemaker"

Trump devoted a significant portion of his address to foreign policy, presenting himself as a “peacemaker.” He mentioned Ukraine, Venezuela, the Middle East, as well as relations between Belgrade and Pristina, claiming that his administration had contributed to stabilizing certain crisis hotspots.

Regarding Iran, he stated that the United States maintains a strong military presence in the region and will continue to protect its interests, particularly with respect to Tehran’s nuclear program.

The speech comes ahead of the upcoming midterm elections, which will serve as a key test of confidence in the administration and the balance of power in Congress.

Reactions from Republicans indicate that Trump succeeded in consolidating support within his base, while Democrats maintained that the president is ignoring real economic challenges and deepening social divisions.

One thing is certain: the nearly two-hour speech will continue to be analyzed in the days ahead.
