Minister of Defense Bratislav Gasic stated that the conditions have been created for the reintroduction of mandatory military service, which will last 75 days, and that the start of service will depend on global developments and circumstances, either beginning in December of this year or in March 2.
According to the minister, 60 days are planned for training soldiers in barracks, and 15 days for field training.
"Regardless of the criticism about the duration of military service, future soldiers will be able to learn many useful things. We did not set 75 days arbitrarily. The army is a teacher of life, and they will certainly learn many things that will be useful to them in the future", Gasic said.
Major changes on Serbia’s political scene cannot occur so rapidly, and my message to the student and anti-government bloc is not to expect too much from the local elections on March 29, said public relations expert Predrag Vujovic in an interview for Newsmax Balkans.
Serbia national team head coach Veljko Paunovic stated that the return of Sergej and Vanja Milinkovic-Savic to the national team is a major boost for Serbian football.
According to the minister, after completing their training, recruits are expected to be called up for military exercises in the following years in order to reinforce the knowledge they have acquired.
"It was not easy to prepare the facilities intended for training soldiers. In the period from 2000 to 2012, around 2,400 military facilities deteriorated. They were not maintained, and there were not enough boots for members of the Serbian Armed Forces", Gasic emphasized.
