The Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, announced that the United States has officially confirmed in writing the postponement of sanctions on Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) until April 28.
She highlighted that a new aspect of this decision is that the license now also includes American companies, financial institutions, and U.S. citizens.
It should be recalled that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic previously announced that sanctions against NIS had been postponed for an additional 30 days.
The Serbian government has sent a letter to the U.S. administration expressing support for the request by Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) to postpone the implementation of sanctions announced by the United States due to the company's Russian ownership.
The Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, stated that they received information from the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) that they have approved the request to delay sanctions and that the Americans have acknowledged the importance of NIS for our economy.
He expressed gratitude to everyone in Serbia who had worked towards this outcome and to American partners for their understanding.
Additionally, the Serbian government sent a letter to the U.S. administration in support of NIS's request for a further postponement of the sanctions, which the United States had introduced due to Russian ownership of the company.
Washington had already delayed the imposition of sanctions on NIS for one month.
