Lucic: Telekom Srbija to Expand via a Platform Similar to Netflix
The CEO of Telekom Srbija, Vladimir Lucic, stated that with the completion of the acquisition of the company SBB, Telekom Srbija and PPF, the owner of Yettel, have gained new content for their cable systems and that the company will continue to expand through a platform similar to Netflix.
Telekom Srbija purchased certain rights, licenses, and other assets related to Sport Klub channels in the Western Balkans from United Group. Telekom also acquired Net TV Plus, which broadcasts programming for the diaspora market, as well as the satellite television service Total TV in Serbia and North Macedonia, also from United Group.
Vladimir Lucic explained that Telekom Srbija and PPF, whose owner is Etisalat from Abu Dhabi, have finalized the acquisition of parts of SBB, with PPF Group taking over SBB’s cable channels, while Telekom acquired Total TV and the broadcasting rights to sports competitions that have been transferred from Sport Klub to Arena Sport.
"Total TV was integrated into the SBB system and will be transferred to Telekom Srbija over the next few months", Lucic told RTS.
He noted that in the initial phase, there is an agreement with SBB for the company to continue providing certain services to Telekom, such as call center operations and customer support, so that former SBB users experience as little disruption as possible during the transition period until full integration into Telekom.
He said that the transaction was completed the day before yesterday, and that Telekom Srbija, PPF, and Etisalat have taken over all of SBB’s services, emphasizing that users now have access to a complete sports offering on Arena Sport channels.
Vladimir Lucic, the CEO of Telekom Srbija, stated at the 32nd Kopaonik Business Forum that the 5G network, which the company is working on, will be crucial for the development of the digital ecosystem not only in Serbia but also in the region.
The CEO of Telekom Srbija, Vladimir Lucic, stated that the 5G network will be launched in all major cities of Serbia by the end of the year and that the Expo represents a great opportunity for the company as it involves millions of new roaming service users.
He also pointed out that RTS thematic channels are now available to all users, following an agreement with the new owner of SBB.
Speaking about the Net TV Plus and Total TV services, which are primarily intended for the diaspora, Lucic said that users abroad will also benefit from improved service quality.
As a result of this transaction, Telekom has gained over one hundred thousand new diaspora users, and the company's goal is further expansion. Telekom plans to open offices in all cities in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland where there are Serbian communities.
According to him, Telekom Srbija's expansion strategy includes strong production of films, series, and other content, which will be offered on various platforms, with investments from its own fund into digital services that it aims to export.
He emphasized that Telekom Srbija will seek new revenue streams through IT services and cybersecurity, and that a platform similar to Netflix is currently in development.
"Starting next month, Telekom will actively promote its platform, which will resemble Netflix, thereby initiating the transition from traditional channels to a platform model", Lucic said, adding that users can expect new films and series.
