For the First Time in History, Average Net Salary in Serbia Exceeds the Average Value of the Consumer Basket

The average net salary amounted to 108,312 dinars, while the average consumer basket stood at 105,765 dinars, the MAT report states.

In a section assessing economic activity, it is estimated that based on currently available indicators, Serbia’s real gross domestic product (GDP) increased by about 3 percent year-over-year in the January–February 2025 period.

The authors of the analysis point out that February brought somewhat weaker results in certain economic segments compared to the same month last year.

They cite several reasons for this, including the calendar effect — February this year had one day fewer than last year — as well as external recessionary pressures, student protests and blockades, and actions by consumer associations against retail chains.

The analysis notes that when the calendar effect is removed, in the seasonally adjusted series, total industrial production in February did not decline, but rather increased year-over-year by 0.8 percent, while the growth in real retail trade turnover reached 1.3 percent.

As for inflation, it decreased in February both on a monthly and annual basis. After temporarily exceeding the target range in January 2025, year-over-year inflation in February returned within the target set by the National Bank of Serbia.
