Foreign ministers of EU member states, during a meeting in Luxembourg, discussed the Western Balkans and reaffirmed the necessity of normalizing relations between Belgrade and Pristina.
At the meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, discussions also covered Russia’s war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East – including Syria – EU-Africa relations, and other current issues.
Regarding the Western Balkans, the ministers exchanged views on the EU’s relations with regional partners, focusing on ways to further strengthen security and defense cooperation in addressing political challenges, as well as advancing regional stability and security.
According to a statement from the EU Council, the discussion addressed the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia and reaffirmed the need for normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina.
High Representative Kallas emphasized that the stability and security of the region are of vital importance to the EU.
Ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting, Kallas hosted an informal dinner on Sunday evening for the foreign ministers of the Western Balkans, which was also attended by Serbia’s Foreign Minister, Marko Djuric.
