Aleksandar Mitic from the Institute for International Politics and Economics told Newsmax Balkans that Serbia is pursuing a challenging policy, balancing between major global powers. He added that this is currently the only viable path.
Serbia strives to maintain balance in its relations with leading global powers, developing cooperation with both the East and the West. In this foreign policy strategy, China has emerged as a key strategic partner, continually strengthening economic, political, and cultural ties.
Ambassador Li Ming remarked that the friendship between Serbia and China transcends bilateral frameworks and serves as an example for international relations.
"Our friendship has surpassed bilateral relations and has become a model for all other countries, especially in academic circles," Ming stated.
Through the "Belt and Road" initiative, Chinese investments in Serbia have seen significant growth in recent years. Serbian exports to China are increasing, and cooperation is expanding into international forums. Ivona Ladjevac from the Institute for International Politics and Economics highlighted the flourishing economic ties.
"With Chinese investments playing a crucial role in Serbia's development—from transportation and energy to innovation and green technology—more Serbian products have found their way to the Chinese market, opening new chapters in trade. Additionally, cultural and educational exchanges are at a high level," she noted.
Vice President of the National Assembly, Marina Ragus, mentioned that Serbia joined the "Belt and Road" initiative in 2017.
"Serbia became China's first comprehensive strategic partner in Central and Eastern Europe in 2016, and this partnership has been deepened through economic, political, and cultural cooperation. Serbia joined the 'Belt and Road' initiative in 2017, leading to many multilateral agreements in the past decade," she emphasized.
In today's world, marked by increasing geopolitical divisions and frequent international pressures, Serbia aims to maintain its independence in foreign policy decisions while balancing relations with all global powers.
Mitic stated that Serbia is pursuing a challenging policy, balancing between major global powers, but this is currently the only viable path.
Messages from the conference marking 70 years of diplomatic relations between Belgrade and Beijing confirm that Serbia views its partnership with China as a vital support during global challenges.
Maintaining balance through cooperation, dialogue, and mutual respect remains a key principle of Serbia's foreign policy.
