Four Sentenced to Life in Prison for the Murder of Girl Vanja in North Macedonia, Father Acquitted
Four men accused of the abduction and murder of 14-year-old Vanja Djorcevska and 74-year-old hairdresser Pance Zezovski in November 2023 in North Macedonia have been sentenced to life in prison.
Vanja's father, Aleksandar Djorcevski, was acquitted of charges that he had provided information about her movements.
After presenting the reasoning for the charges and the events related to Vanja's abduction and murder, Judge Ivica Stefanovski handed down a single sentence of life imprisonment to the accused: Ljupco Palevski, Velibor Manev, Boro Videvski, and Vlatko Kesishev, for the murder of Vanja Djorcevska.
Vanja’s father, Aleksandar Djorcevski, who was accused of giving information about his daughter’s whereabouts, was acquitted of the charges.
"The court sentenced the accused Velibor Manev, Boro Videvski, Vlatko Kesishev, and Ljupco Palevski to 10 years in prison each for the crime of kidnapping, and to life imprisonment each for the crime of murder, with a combined sentence of life imprisonment," explained Judge Stefanovski during today’s verdict at the Basic Criminal Court in Skopje.

However, the court also issued a not guilty verdict regarding the kidnapping of Pance Zezovski.
"The accused Manev, Videvski, Kesishev, and Palevski are acquitted of the charge that on November 22, 2023, around 9 a.m. in Veles, they kidnapped Pance Zezovski in order to force him to give them a car. The public prosecutor failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that they committed the crime," said Judge Stefanovski.
Aleksandar Djorcevski was also acquitted, as the Public Prosecutor’s Office failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he committed a criminal offense.
The court ruled that the detention of those sentenced to life imprisonment will be extended until the verdict becomes final, while in the case of Aleksandar Djorcevski, house arrest is lifted since he was acquitted.
The indictment stated that the accused had jointly planned the abduction of 14-year-old Vanja in order to extort ransom money from a close family member.
Vanja Djorcevska and Pance Zezovski were reported missing on November 27 and 24, respectively, and were found dead on December 3, 2023, near Skopje and Veles.
