Congresswomen Tenney and Houlahan wrote to Trump to help achieve a permanent agreement between Belgrade and Pristina
New York Republican Representative Claudia Tenney and Democratic Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan sent President Donald Trump a bipartisan letter encouraging him to help reach a lasting peace agreement between Belgrade and Pristina.
She emphasized that both sides want closer ties with the US and that they trust President Trump.
In the letter, which Tenney also published on X, the congresswomen emphasized that it is a "unique moment in history" in which President Trump and his administration can create lasting peace between two sides that are strategically very important in the Western Balkans territory.
"The unsurpassed leadership of the US President in the 2020 Washington Agreement and the Abraham Accords showed what is possible," said Tenney and as the president of the Congressional Caucus of Serbia, she invited Trump to visit Belgrade and Pristina, initiate direct talks and work on an agreement on normalization.

The two congresswomen called on Trump to use his "obvious influence in the region" to help reach a normalization agreement between Belgrade and Pristina that would help regional stability.
They indicated that the Western Balkans is a critical region in the world, which is often forgotten, to one's own detriment, while instability in the Western Balkans is often a precursor to global instability and major conflicts.
"The Western Balkans is the gateway between the Western and Eastern worlds. Both Serbia and Kosovo have long been strong allies of the US that cooperate with our armed forces and intelligence agencies. However, the strained relations between Serbia and Kosovo have created a ripple effect of instability throughout the Western Balkans. We believe that a potential peace agreement and agreement on mutual recognition between Serbia and Kosovo could be a catalyst for the creation of a more stable and peaceful Western Balkans," said the congresswomen.
Co-chair of the Serbian Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, emphasized in an exclusive statement to Newsmax Balkans that the decoration she received from the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, holds great significance for her.
Claudia Tenney, a Republican representative from the U.S. state of New York and co-chair of the Serbian Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives, stated that she is concerned about the arrest of Igor Popovic, the Deputy Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija.
Donald Trump was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on peace between Kosovo and Serbia and for economic normalization in 2019 and 2020. Vjosa Osmani was not part of that agreement, wrote Richard Grenell, the U.S. Presidential Envoy for Special Missions, on X (formerly Twitter).
Tenney and Houlahan add that Trump's popularity and ratings in both Belgrade and Pristina are incredibly high.
In the letter, they point out that during talks with officials of the Serbian and Kosovo governments, both sides reiterated their desire for close relations with the US and their strong support for the Trump administration.
"They clearly appreciate your unique interest and focus on the region, which was demonstrated by your appointment of a special envoy for peace negotiations between Serbia and Kosovo in your first mandate. You have already demonstrated your unique influence in the region by leading negotiations on the Washington Agreement between Serbia and Kosovo from 2020," they stated.
The congresswomen pointed out that Trump was also successful in negotiating agreements, such as the Abraham Agreement, which serves to resolve long-standing conflicts and promote regional cooperation.
"We believe that these factors make you uniquely suited to lead negotiations on a more comprehensive agreement between Serbia and Kosovo that could lead to normalization and mutual recognition," Congressmen Tenney and Houlahan concluded in their letter to Trump.
They also forwarded the letter to Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, and the US President's Special Envoy for Special Missions, Richard Grenell.
