He emphasized that “we have only one country, we have only one people, and we need one another,” and therefore, under no circumstances should we allow “ourselves to harm and persecute each other in the streets and squares,” the Serbian Orthodox Church stated.

The Archbishop of Belgrade, Cardinal Ladislav Nemet, stated that he was following “with deep concern the current situation in Serbia,” the unrest that has escalated into violence, and the prevailing tension in the country, calling on “all decision-makers and citizens to put an end to violence.”
“I am deeply convinced that every form of violence is unacceptable and leads only to greater suffering and division,” Nemet stressed in a statement published on the website of the Archdiocese of Belgrade.

He encouraged every individual to choose the path of dialogue, patience, and justice, as only in that way can genuine and lasting solutions to social problems be found.
“I believe that Serbia has the possibility of renewal if it rejects hatred and acts for peace and humanity. I appeal to everyone: now we need consistency, wisdom, and mutual respect for the future of our country,” Nemet said.
As he stressed, “the fate of Serbia is in the hands of us all – the citizens – let us choose the path of peace.”
