The U.S. Lifts Sanctions on Milorad Dodik and Other Republika Srpska Officials
The U.S. Department of the Treasury has removed former President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik, Serb member of the Presidency Zeljka Cvijanović, and Speaker of the National Assembly Nenad Stevandic from its sanctions list.
Sanctions have also been lifted for others who had been subjected to them in the previous period.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury had earlier delisted Danijel Dragicevic, Jelena Pajic Bastinac, Goran Rakovic, and Dijana Milankovic, according to the official website of the Department, as reported by RTRS.
Former President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik thanked U.S. President Donald Trump, emphasizing that this represents a moral rehabilitation of the truth about Republika Srpska and all those who serve it honorably.
According to information obtained unofficially by Newsmax Balkans in Washington, the Serbian government is currently developing a plan to resolve the issue of the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS) and to have the company removed from the list of entities under U.S. sanctions.
"I am grateful to U.S. President Donald Trump and his associates for correcting the great injustice inflicted upon Republika Srpska, its representatives, and their families - an injustice created by the Obama and Biden administrations", Dodik wrote on X.
He stated that the decision to lift the sanctions is not only a legal act but also a moral rehabilitation of the truth about Republika Srpska and all who serve it with honor, adding that it once again proves that "everything that was said against us was a lie and propaganda, which built the great disorder created by Christian Schmidt - a disorder that now must be cleaned up".
"To those who rejoiced over the years and believed in others’ lies, I can forgive everything except the years we lost because they believed Republika Srpska would fall. Today it is clear - it will never fall", Dodik said.
