Members of the Serbian Parliament Elect Eight Members of the REM Council
At its session, the National Assembly of Serbia elected members of the Council of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM).

The elected members of the Council of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) – Rodoljub Sabic, Ira Prodanov Krajisnik, Mileva Malesic, and Dubravka Valic Nedeljkovic – announced that they are resigning from these positions.
They explained that they decided to address the public after the National Assembly of Serbia failed to elect all nine members of the Council, even though the complete list of candidates had passed all legal procedures, including public hearings, and had received approval from the Committee on Culture and Information.
"By taking this step, the ruling majority has placed us before a fait accompli, in a situation in which we are expected to participate in a process that has been rendered essentially meaningless. This sends a message that institutions can be filled selectively, according to the needs of the parties in power, even when everything is in line with the law and established procedure", they emphasized.
Sabic, Prodanov Krajisnik, Malesic, and Valic Nedeljkovic stressed that under such circumstances, they believe the only honorable and responsible course of action is to resign, as they refuse to be elected through a process that puts politics above the law.

We want to be absolutely clear: this is not giving up the fight. On the contrary, this very situation demonstrates why the fight was and remains necessary", they underscored.
The statement adds that, thanks to pressure from the public, independent organizations, the expert community, national councils, and to a more mature democratic consciousness within society, for the first time in many years there was genuine competition and the largest number of independent nominations.
"This is an achievement that remains and that no one can erase. Today’s decision by the ruling majority only confirms how the authorities view institutions – as something that exists to serve personal needs, not citizens and the public interest. This process has also confirmed that in Serbia there is a large number of people, organizations, movements, and political actors who know that Serbia can do better and who are fighting for such a Serbia", the elected Council members stated.
They noted that they entered the process honorably, ready to take on responsibility and contribute through their work to a better REM and a better media landscape in Serbia.
"Today we declare: we do not accept political manipulation aimed at making a mockery of the law. The fight continues – for institutions, for the rule of law, for a society in which decisions are made in accordance with the law, not political will", the statement concludes.
We remind readers that, at its session on Tuesday, the National Assembly of Serbia elected eight out of the nine REM Council members.
The Assembly did not elect the REM Council member nominated by the councils of national minorities – a position for which Muhedin Fijuljanin and Ljumturije Ameti had been candidates.
The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has issued a new license to the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS), allowing negotiations for the sale of the Russian stake with an extended deadline until March 24. At the same time, OFAC has not authorized NIS to conduct business during this period.
