"Seven days to make a decision on NIS", decided at the emergency session of the Serbian Government
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated that a decision regarding NIS must be made within the next seven days, repeating that he does not want to seize anyone’s property and that he is ready for a “special solution” that has been negotiated.
A session of the Serbian Government was held at the Palace of Serbia regarding the situation in the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS). Along with Prime Minister Djura Macut and the ministers, the session was attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Speaker of the National Assembly Ana Brnabic, Chief of the General Staff Milan Mojsilovic, as well as directors of public companies.
"By next week we must make a decision and have a solution for NIS. I hope that the Asian and European partners with whom the Russian partners are speaking will agree to negotiate ownership, which would mean that we could notify OFAC with a joint letter", Vucic said, reminding that the state is responding responsibly to the sanctions on NIS.
Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic stated that last night the United States sent a negative message concerning the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS) and unambiguously indicated in response to the company’s request that they want a complete change of ownership of the Russian shareholders.
"The condition is that negotiations on ownership be accepted. We will agree to sign the letter that the Russians, together with their Asian and European partners, will send to the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). We will sign it both as the country where this is taking place and as owners of 29.87%. We will sign everything and wait for the Americans’ decision, whether they accept it or not, whether they will allow the inflow of oil or not, and what the conditions would be to enable that inflow", Vucic said, emphasizing that Serbia is ready to offer a better price for NIS.
He added that without an oil inflow, Serbia will be in complete collapse by February 13th .
"If we have to pay ourselves, we will have the money, we will pay, we will simply have to carry out that operation. And we will inform the citizens if this is accepted, because I want to avoid confiscation, nationalization, and seizure of property at all costs", Vucic stressed.
