Former Minister Vesic questioned at the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime regarding a financial investigation
Former Minister of Construction Goran Vesic was questioned at the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime in connection with a financial investigation related to the reconstruction of the Railway Station building, where 16 people were killed and one was injured after the collapse of a canopy.
He arrived at the Special Court building in Ustanicka Street in Belgrade accompanied by his lawyers.
Vesic was questioned at the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and gave his statement in the capacity of a suspect.
To recall, the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime launched an investigation against former ministers Vesic and Tomislav Momirovic and 12 other individuals on suspicion that they caused $115 million in damage to the budget during the reconstruction of the Novi Sad–Kelebija railway line, which also included the renovation of the station building in Novi Sad.
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic stated that the site of the General Staff Building is not being sold but will instead be leased for 99 years. He added that the investment in that location will amount to at least 650 million euros.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated that a decision regarding NIS must be made within the next seven days, repeating that he does not want to seize anyone’s property and that he is ready for a “special solution” that has been negotiated.
In the arrest operation carried out on August 1st of this year at the order of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime, Vesic was not arrested because he had been admitted to the hospital the day before due to poor health.
Although detention was immediately ordered, later replaced by a more lenient measure of house arrest with mandatory electronic monitoring, Vesic remained hospitalized until nearly mid-October.
