She emphasized that at today’s extraordinary session of the Government of Serbia, a decision was adopted to entrust the management of the gas infrastructure to a new company, while Srbijagas will continue supplying the gas market – its main role going forward.

“This is something we have already done in the electricity sector, where we have separate companies responsible for transmission, production, and distribution. We are now doing the same in the gas sector, and this is a reform process that will primarily help make the sector more organized, while ensuring greater security in the future, both regarding the construction of new gas pipelines and the gas supply itself,” said Djedovic Handanovic after the government session at which a package of energy regulations was reviewed.

She added that the government also discussed adopting the laws on oil, gas, and mandatory reserves, as well as procuring additional quantities of gasoline and diesel.

“I would like to remind you that in just the past two and a half years, we have increased our euro-diesel supplies by 70,600 tons. We have created conditions to be even more secure in unforeseen situations, and we are continuing with 38,000 tons of gasoline and an additional 66,000 tons of diesel,” the minister pointed out.

She further noted that the filling of storage tanks in Smederevo should begin soon, pending imminent operational approval.

“Just to clarify regarding gas – this has nothing to do with oil or with any Russian arrangement. It concerns harmonizing our legal framework for the gas sector, primarily with European Union standards, all with the aim of enhancing our security and ensuring that we have sufficient energy resources, especially natural gas,” the minister stated.

She added that Serbia’s goal is to diversify its gas sources.

“That is why we are building new gas interconnections with North Macedonia and Romania, in addition to the one already completed with Bulgaria – so that in the future we have more sources and are able to negotiate with more partners and secure the best possible conditions for our country,” Djedovic Handanovic concluded.
