Vucic at Annual Conference: Goals for 2026 Are Peace, Stability, and the Best Year in History
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated at the annual press conference that Serbia has two goals for 2026: the first, political, is peace and stability; the second is to make 2026 the best year in Serbia’s history, primarily in terms of the economy.
Vucic emphasized that all efforts will be directed toward achieving these two goals.
“It seems to me that everything we have done and everything we will do can be directed toward achieving these two goals. Serbia will continue its policy of military neutrality and peace, and will adhere to the UN Charter and resolutions, not only regarding Kosovo and Metohija but also in relation to other crises around the world,” Vucic said.
“The Energy Situation Is Not Comfortable”
Vucic stressed that the energy situation is of particular importance to him.
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic has signed a decree appointing Professor Dragan Simeunovic of the Faculty of Political Sciences as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Romania.
On 28 December, Air Serbia achieved a historic success, breaking the record set in 1987 by the former JAT with 4,531,000 passengers carried, once again confirming its position as the fastest-growing airline in the region.
“The situation in the energy sector is not comfortable at the moment. We are expecting a decision from OFAC and the State Department in this regard. We have managed to maintain full stability for 83 days without a single drop of oil. We are now using what we had been saving; every day that the refinery remains idle, we lose money, enormous quantities of oil, and our growth rate. The refinery will operate. Whoever takes over a stake in NIS, the refinery must operate – that is the only condition we have,” Vucic emphasized.
He added that, in terms of infrastructure, the plan includes 936 kilometers of high-speed railways and roads, bringing the total to 1,050 kilometers of transport routes.
Largest Pension in History in Five Days

“With this increase, pensions have risen by 137 percent nominally, and by 44.8 percent in real terms. That is what represents an increase in the living standard of pensioners. And we will not stop there. That is one of the reasons why I said it will be the best year – not only in terms of equipping the army and police and significantly increasing their salaries, but also for our pensioners, who will again receive a significant increase, bringing the total to 12.2 percent. A new increase in 2026 will be more than five percent,” he stressed.
The Serbian president also said that the average salary in December 2025 is expected to exceed €1,000, and that by the end of 2027 the average salary is projected to reach €1,400.
