Representatives of the Government of Serbia and the company Azvirt have signed a contract for the construction of a fast road from Backi Breg to Srbobran.

"The Smile of Vojvodina": Azvirt to build 186 km Bački Breg–Srbobran expressway

A commercial contract for the design and construction works on the fast road from the Backi Breg border crossing through Sombor, Kula, Vrbas to Srbobran was signed in Belgrade with the Azerbaijani company Azvirt.

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, stated that the fast road from the Backi Breg border crossing through Sombor, Kula, Vrbas to Srbobran will ensure greater mobility for employment and represents a road to Serbia’s future.

After the signing of the commercial contract for the design and construction of this fast road with the Azerbaijani company Azvirt, Vucic said that the 94-kilometer section west of Srbobran will be built first.

He added that this is not only a matter of attracting investors, but also of improving the quality and health of people's lives.

As he emphasized, in addition to bringing cities closer together and connecting people, it will provide greater mobility in employment, which is of great importance for Serbia’s future.

The contract was signed by Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijevic, Director of Corridors of Serbia Aleksandar Antic, and Director of Azvirt Serbia Ahmet Murat Turkoglu.

The signing was also attended by the Ambassador of Azerbaijan, Kamil Hasijev.

The total length of the road, as previously announced, from Backi Breg to Srpska Crnja, also known as the "Smile of Vojvodina", will be about 186 kilometers and will be designed for a speed of 100 km/h.

Travel time from Backi Breg to Vrbas will be about 50 minutes, and from Vrbas to Srpska Crnja about one hour and ten minutes.

On the section of the planned route from Sombor to Kikinda, construction is planned for 46 bridges (over canals and crossings), 34 overpasses, five underpasses, and 35 culverts.

Along the route, 12 interchanges are planned: Sombor, Kljajicevo, Sivac, Crvenka, Kula, Vrbas West, Vrbas North, Vrbas East, Vrbas E75, Srbobran North, Turija, and Kikinda East.

The construction of 13 at-grade roundabouts is also planned.
