The President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, met in Abu Dhabi with the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and on that occasion emphasized that Serbia stands in solidarity with the friendly people of the Emirates in these difficult circumstances.
"In a several-hour, unplanned but important visit to the United Arab Emirates. I am especially grateful to the UAE President for استقبالing me and seeing me off at the airport, thus showing great respect for our country", the serbian president wrote on Instagram.
He added that during the meeting he expressed the strongest condemnation of the attack on the UAE, along with, as he stated, "full solidarity of Serbia with the friendly people of the Emirates in these difficult and concerning circumstances".
"At a time when the Middle East is facing serious challenges, and the consequences of conflict and instability go far beyond the region’s borders, it is important to clearly show support for our friends, but also responsibility in seeking a path toward peace and stability", he said.
The first European leader to visit the UAE since the beginning of the conflict
Vučić is the third world leader - after the King of Jordan and the President of Egypt - and the first European leader to visit the Emirates since the conflict began.
He wrote that he and Bin Zayed also exchanged views on bilateral relations based on mutual trust, respect, and concrete results.
"I particularly emphasized that Serbia wants to continue developing comprehensive cooperation with the UAE, from investments and energy to new technologies and development projects, while also maintaining political dialogue at the highest level, which is of exceptional importance in times like these. Serbia greatly appreciates the support and relationship the UAE shows toward our country, especially the willingness to seek new solutions together and strengthen cooperation in areas of strategic importance even in complex global circumstances. I am convinced that the friendship we have built over the years represents a solid foundation for further connecting our states and peoples", Vučić wrote.
