President Trump will remain in China until Friday. This marks the first visit by a sitting U.S. president to China in nearly nine years, as well as Trump’s second visit to the country since November 2017, at a time of heightened tensions between the two nations.

Who Is Included in Trump’s Delegation

The U.S. delegation includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, all of whom arrived aboard the presidential aircraft, Air Force One. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent arrived separately from Seoul, where he had previously held trade talks with his Chinese counterpart ahead of the leaders’ meetings.

Also accompanying the president are Trump’s son Eric Trump and daughter-in-law Lara Trump, who served as co-chair of the Republican National Committee during the 2024 presidential campaign and now hosts a program on Fox News.

The visit comes amid numerous unresolved issues, ranging from trade and economic relations to global conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, as well as topics such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and strategic stability.

Newsmax Balkans journalist Ognjen Medic, reporting from Beijing on the meeting between the two leaders, previously stated that Trump would receive a ceremonial welcome at the international airport with full state honors.

It is worth noting that Newsmax Balkans is the only television crew from Serbia accompanying the U.S. presidential delegation and the first from the region to cover an official visit to China in this format.

The delegation also includes senior U.S. officials such as Pete Hegseth and Marco Rubio, as well as representatives of major technology companies including Apple, Nvidia, Mastercard, and Visa.

Key Topics of the Talks

As expected, a bilateral meeting between Trump and Xi Jinping is scheduled for Thursday morning local time, along with a series of accompanying talks and meetings in Beijing. Visits to cultural and historical landmarks are also planned.

Analysts believe the visit is highly significant for relations between the world’s two largest economies at a time of global economic instability.

According to the Newsmax Balkans reporter, discussions will focus heavily on the situation in the Middle East, where Washington is expected to seek cooperation with Beijing in influencing broader geopolitical developments, including relations with Russia and the war in Ukraine.

Another key topic will be U.S.-China trade relations, including tariffs and customs duties, as well as technological competition and cooperation between the two countries.

When Trump and Xi Last Met

The most recent meeting between Trump and Xi took place in October of last year in South Korea, when the two leaders agreed to temporarily halt their trade dispute. During that period, the United States imposed triple-digit tariffs on Chinese goods, while Beijing threatened to restrict global supplies of rare earth metals.

Medic emphasized that the visit will demonstrate whether the two powers can ease tensions and improve cooperation, or whether existing differences will further deepen the divide between Washington and Beijing.
