Proposal for the removal of the Mayor of Novi Sad rejected, some citizens tried to enter the City Assembly
The proposal for the removal of the Mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Djuric, was rejected by a majority vote in the City Assembly, and the session was concluded. 25 councilors voted for the removal, while 48 voted against it.
Previously, the opposition had called on citizens to gather in front of the City Assembly building at 11:52 AM and express their dissatisfaction for 15 minutes with the government’s response to the tragedy in the city, when 15 people were killed and two seriously injured on November 1st after a canopy collapsed at the train station.
The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad announced that, as part of the investigation into the collapse of the canopy at the Train Station, four witnesses employed at the Ministry of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure were questioned on December 2nd.
Citizens of Novi Sad painted Freedom Square red one month after the tragedy in which 15 people died due to the collapse of the Railway Station building’s concrete roof canopy.
Some citizens attempted to enter the building, but the police prevented them from doing so.
Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic stated that representatives of the former regime in Novi Sad had deliberately caused chaos on the streets and in the City Assembly in a coordinated effort to violently take over the institution.
