Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated in an interview with Breitbart News that U.S. President Donald Trump is by far the most popular American political leader in Serbia in a very long time. Trump later shared Vucic’s interview on his social media platform, Truth Social.

Vucic said that Trump’s popularity in Serbia reached extraordinary levels ahead of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, with approximately three-quarters of Serbian citizens supporting Trump and hoping for his victory.

According to Vucic, Trump enjoyed "by far the greatest support" in Serbia compared to anywhere else in Europe. He claimed that even strongly Republican U.S. states such as West Virginia, Kentucky, and Louisiana could not match Trump’s popularity in Serbia.

"I can say that I was surprised by some comments that appeared in the American media, where certain European countries were portrayed as strongholds of Donald Trump, because it was completely clear to all of us that Serbia was the place where he enjoyed by far the greatest support during the election campaign. At that time, that support exceeded 75 percent among those who had made up their minds, which was not the case even in the United States", Vucic said before departing for China for a meeting with Xi Jinping.

Vucic said there were several reasons why Trump is so highly regarded in Serbia.

"I will tell you the reasons. There are three important ones. The first is that people in Serbia wanted to see a new kind of relationship between the United States and our small country, because over the past 30 years the U.S. has often been perceived as a power that pressured us on various issues and that, particularly during the administration of Bill Clinton, imposed conditions on us, bombed us, and did everything else. People expected major changes", Vucic emphasized.

He added that people in Serbia have always admired the United States, embraced the idea of the American Dream, and wanted to see a new type of relationship between the two countries.

"The second reason is that they saw President Trump as someone who had the courage to raise certain issues and speak about them loudly, openly, and publicly, from a traditionally conservative point of view, differently from the way these issues were discussed by people in Brussels and Washington. When I say that, I mean family values and issues related to transgender people, however you choose to describe them. I have nothing against anyone, but if you tell people in Serbia, ‘All right, there are no longer only men and women; there is also something in between,’ people become confused and wanted to hear the clear and straightforward messages that President Trump was sending", Vucic said.

Vucic noted that the last U.S. president to make an official visit to Belgrade was Richard Nixon, and expressed hope that Trump would follow Nixon’s example and pay a state visit to Serbia.

According to Vucic, if Trump were to visit Serbia, he would be welcomed by the largest crowd he had ever seen more than 100,000 people.

"Yes, I invite him", Vucic said when asked whether he would like Trump to visit Belgrade.

"And I guarantee, guarantee, guarantee to President Trump that he would see the largest crowd here, even larger than in Washington when people come from all the states to greet and celebrate him after an election victory. At least 100,000 people would come to hear and see him and to hear news about better relations with the United States", the Serbian president stated.
