Family of Serbian Citizen Kidnapped by Hamas Learns He is Alive
The family of Serbian citizen Alon Ohel, who was kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, 2023, has learned that he is alive, Israeli activist Aviva Klompas reported.
She wrote on X that Alon was at the "Nova" festival with friends, arriving an hour before the attack on October 7. The last message he sent to his family was at 8:08 a.m., after taking shelter near the road.
Ohel was kidnapped along with Elia Kono, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, and Or Levy, who was released on Saturday. Klompas also relayed an appeal from Ohel's family to the Israeli Prime Minister and government, urging them to do everything possible to rescue him and other hostages.
Honorary Consul of Serbia in Israel, Aleksandar Nikolic, told Newsmax Balkans that the abducted Alon Ohel (23), a young pianist of Serbian descent from Novi Sad, is expected to be part of the exchange in the second phase of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
The war between Israel and Palestine has been ongoing for over a year. During this time, civilians have suffered, the sick have died without medicine, and children have gone missing. Among the abducted is Alon Ohel (23).
Israel’s Ambassador to Serbia, Avivit Bar-Ilan, said in an interview with Newsmax Balkans that the war in Gaza will not end until Hamas returns the 101 Israeli hostages, kidnapped in southern Israel in October of last year.
In a statement, Alon's family said they had been informed that since the abduction, he had been held in Gaza tunnels with hostages who were recently released.
"While we feel relief and many emotions knowing Alon is alive, we are also devastated and shocked by his dire physical and psychological condition, as well as the abuse he and
other hostages continue to endure. Alon has survived unimaginable horrors, but time is running out. The release of hostages cannot be delayed. They are all humanitarian cases," they stated.
Since the abduction, they added, Alon has been kept in harsh conditions in Hamas' underground tunnels, without daylight or access to basic human necessities.
"We have been informed that Alon sustained an eye injury. In addition, he is being held under particularly severe captivity conditions, where there is a critical food shortage," they said.
