Who Are the New Faces in the Serbian Government? Prime Minister-Designate Submits Cabinet Proposal

In the new government, which will be headed by Djuro Macut, Milos Vucevic, who served as Prime Minister in the previous term, and Aleksandar Vulin, who was Deputy Prime Minister in charge of overseeing projects across multiple ministries in coordination with the President, will not be part of the cabinet.

Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environmental Protection Irena Vujovic will also not be leading any ministries in the new government. The Environmental Protection portfolio will now be taken over by Sara Pavkov, who previously worked in the Ministry as a special advisor.

Amid student protests, there is a major change at the helm of the Ministry of Education. Instead of Slavica Djukic Dejanovic, the new minister will be Dejan Vuk Stankovic, a full-time professor at the Faculty for the Education of Teachers in Belgrade. He is often featured in the media as a political analyst and has also been nominated for the REM Council.

Dejan Ristic will not continue as Minister of Information and Telecommunications; he will be replaced by Boris Bratina, an associate professor at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Pristina, temporarily located in Kosovska Mitrovica.

Aleksandar Martinovic, previously Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management, is also out. His position will be taken over by Dragan Glamocic, who held the same role in Ivica Dacic’s government in 2013. Glamocic has been working at the Faculty of Agriculture since 1996 and was appointed as an advisor to President Aleksandar Vucic last year.

Another new name is Aleksandra Sofronijevic, who will lead the Ministry of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure. She had temporarily held this position after Goran Vesic resigned. Prior to that, she served in various roles across the ministries of construction, urbanism, capital investments, and environmental protection.

Jagoda Lazarevic will be the new Minister of Internal and External Trade, following the resignation of Tomislav Momirovic after a shelter collapse in Novi Sad. Previously, she served as Acting Assistant Minister for Economic Diplomacy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was Serbia’s Commissioner General at EXPO 2020 Dubai from 2018 to 2021.

Tomislav Zigmanov, who led the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue, is also out. He will be replaced by Demo Berisa, president of the Albanian Matica in Serbia and a member of the founding committee of the new political movement announced by Vucic.

Bela Balint, a hematologist and member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, will be the new Minister of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation, replacing Jelena Begovic.

Instead of Jelena Zaric Kovacevic, the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government will now be led by Snezana Paunovic, a member of the Socialist Party of Serbia and a four-time MP.

Jelena Zaric Kovacevic will remain in the government, taking over a different portfolio as Minister for Family Care and Demography.

Previously in charge of that ministry, Milica Djurdjevic Stamenkovski will now head the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans, and Social Affairs, taking over from Nemanja Starovic.

Starovic will retain a ministerial role, now as Minister for European Investments, replacing Tanja Miscevic, who is not among the proposed candidates for the new government.

Other former ministers who will not continue include Maja Popovic. The new Minister of Justice will be Nenad Vujic, Director of the Judicial Academy.

Ministers Who Remain in Their Roles:

· Sinisa Mali: First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance

· Ivica Dacic: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs

· Adrijana Mesarovic: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy

· Nikola Selakovic: Minister of Culture

· Darko Glisic: Minister for Public Investments

· Husein Memic: Minister of Tourism and Youth

· Zoran Gajic: Minister of Sports

· Zlatibor Loncar: Minister of Health

· Marko Djuric: Minister of Foreign Affairs

· Bratislav Gasic: Minister of Defense

· Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic: Minister of Mining and Energy

Ministers Without Portfolio (Unchanged):

· Novica Toncev

· Djordje Milicevic

· Usame Zukorlic

· Nenad Popovic

· Tatjana Macura

Speaker of the Serbian Parliament Ana Brnabic confirmed that the cabinet proposal has been received and has scheduled a parliamentary session for April 15 to vote on the new government.

By law, the government must be formed by April 18, 30 days after the resignation of former PM Milos Vucevic was acknowledged in parliament. If not, new elections will be called.
