The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, stated that she wants to see Serbia make progress toward EU membership and that this requires implementing reforms.
"My message to the authorities in Belgrade is clear. I want to see Serbia advance toward the EU. Political leaders must implement the necessary reforms and define a strategic direction," Kallas wrote on her account on the social media platform X.
She emphasized that this can best be achieved, as she said, "by rebuilding trust and committing to democratic principles."
My message to the authorities in Belgrade is clear.
I want to see Serbia advancing towards the EU. For that, political leaders must deliver the necessary reforms and clarify the strategic direction.
Earlier today, Kallas met with the Prime Minister of Serbia, Prof. Dr. Djuro Macut, to discuss the continuation and potential acceleration of Serbia’s EU integration process, as well as the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
Macut emphasized the need to speed up Serbia’s European integration process and expressed confidence that concrete steps on this path—such as the opening of Cluster 3, which has been pending for three years—would soon be discussed.

The meeting was also attended by Foreign Minister Marko Djuric, Minister for European Integration Nemanja Starovic, EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Peter Sorensen, and Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Emanuele Giaufret, according to the statement.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, stated that he believes much can be achieved by the end of the year for Serbia to advance further along its European path.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, and the President of the European Council, António Costa, met at the Palace of Serbia to discuss key issues in the relationship between Serbia and the European Union, as well as the challenges Serbia faces on its European path.
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stated in the European Parliament that the European Union remains committed to supporting Serbia on its path to membership, but emphasized that Belgrade must implement key reforms, which students and citizens have been demanding for the past months.
Djuric stated that the meeting covered a wide range of key issues, including strengthening Serbia's cooperation with European partners to accelerate its accession to the EU.
"Special emphasis was placed on the current stalemate in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. We reiterated Belgrade’s open and constructive position, reaffirming our commitment to finding a lasting and mutually acceptable solution—provided that the other side shows genuine willingness to compromise and fully respects previously agreed obligations," Djuric wrote on X.
Kaja Kallas arrived in Belgrade last night and met with President Aleksandar Vucic. Today, in addition to meeting Prime Minister Macut, she also met with the Speaker of the Serbian National Assembly, Ana Brnabic.
