"Back in the Western Balkans. I will visit Serbia, Kosovo, and North Macedonia over the next two days and engage with the governments and civil societies of these countries as part of their path toward the European Union. The Belgrade–Pristina dialogue is a must when looking forward. Now is the moment for renewed engagement," Kallas wrote on her X (formerly Twitter) account.
Kallas was welcomed earlier at Nikola Tesla Airport by Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric, after which she was received at the Villa Mir in Belgrade by President Aleksandar Vucic.
According to the European External Action Service, Kallas is on her second visit to the Western Balkans from today until May 23, during which she will also visit Pristina and North Macedonia.
Vucic: Serbia Remains a Reliable Partner
President Vucic told Kallas during their meeting that Serbia remains a reliable partner to all who sincerely seek cooperation, progress, and a shared European future.
In an Instagram post, Vucic said he had discussed with Kallas key geopolitical topics, the security situation in the region, Serbia's European path, and the Belgrade–Pristina dialogue.
"I emphasized that Serbia is committed to constructive dialogue under the EU’s auspices as a means of resolving outstanding issues and that protecting the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija is our absolute priority. I reminded that the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities is not only a previously agreed obligation but also a prerequisite for further progress in the dialogue and any normalization of relations," Vucic wrote.
He added that he also discussed with Kallas the alignment process of Serbia with EU foreign and security policy.
"I am convinced that Serbia, as a country striving for EU membership, has the capacity to contribute to preserving peace, stability, and shared European values, while protecting its vital national interests. Serbia remains a reliable partner to all who genuinely pursue cooperation, progress, and a shared European future," Vucic concluded.
