Iran’s Ambassador in Serbia: New ayatollah not yet chosen, U.S. and Israel sabotaging the process

Iran’s Ambassador to Serbia, Mohamed Sadek Fazli, said the country is currently governed by a Temporary Council as a new Supreme Leader has not been elected. He claimed the U.S. and Israel are sabotaging the process by targeting sites believed to host meetings.

He emphasized that "Iran and the Iranian people are in a state of defense".

"Also, the Iranian people are in mourning due to the martyrdom of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Despite the fact that American and Israeli planes, drones, and missiles are attacking Iran, citizens are still on the streets and in mosques, grieving the death of the Supreme Leader", the Iranian ambassador told RTS.

Speaking about media reports that Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the slain Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been chosen as the new Ayatollah and Supreme Leader of Iran, the ambassador said that the election of a new Supreme Leader is a process defined by Iran’s constitution.

"Council meetings are ongoing, and several names are being considered as possible candidates. However, the council has not yet announced its decision, so there can be no talk of a new name until they decide", added Sadek Fazli.
