Sanctions Against Naftna Industrija Srbije Postponed Again for 30 Days

This marks the fifth delay in the full implementation of the U.S. sanctions, which were initially announced due to the Russian ownership stake in NIS.

The implementation of sanctions against NIS has now been delayed until August 27.

Minister Djedovic: Americans Acknowledged the Importance of NIS for Our Economy

The Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, stated that they received information from the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) that they have approved the request to delay sanctions and that the Americans have acknowledged the importance of NIS for our economy.

Serbian Government Sends New Request to Delay Sanctions Against NIS

The Government of Serbia has submitted a new request to the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, supporting the request by Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) to extend its current operating license by another 180 days, said Minister of Mining and Energy.

NIS submitted a request to the U.S. Department of the Treasury for a special license to postpone the full application of the sanctions. As in previous cases, the request was supported by the Government of Serbia.

Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Djedović Handanovic, stated that the postponement of sanctions against NIS is important and beneficial news for all citizens.

The Minister emphasized that despite the complex operating conditions, NIS continues to regularly supply the domestic market with all types of petroleum products and remains committed to maintaining energy stability.

Sanctions against NIS were imposed on January 10 due to so-called "secondary risk," stemming from its ties to the Russian company Gazprom Neft.
