The first woman in Serbia sentenced to life imprisonment

She is the first woman in Serbia to be sentenced to life imprisonment by a first-instance verdict since that sentence was reintroduced in 2019.

This is the 13th first-instance sentence of life imprisonment in Serbia since 2019.

According to the expert's findings, the crime was committed in a particularly insidious and cruel manner, and in the planning process, she allegedly misused the information that her minor daughter gave her, in order to ensure that the victim was alone in the house," writes Sandzak today.

During the trial, Aldina Lakota denied killing her mother-in-law.

Appeals against this first-instance verdict are allowed to the Court of Appeal.
