Lucic: It Is Important for Us to Meet the Standards of American Companies
Newsmax Balkans is one of the key projects we are working on, and we are honored to be promoting the brand throughout Europe. We are starting with Eastern Europe, we have expanded into the Western Balkans, and we also have an office in Washington, said Vladimir Lucic, Director of Telekom Srbija.
Telekom Srbija, one of the largest and fastest-growing telecommunications companies in Southeast Europe – confirmed by its expansion into the U.S. market – sees its greatest development opportunity in cooperation with the current administration of the United States.
That entry into the U.S. market creates space for new joint projects, from technological innovations to strengthening digital infrastructure, Lucic stated from Washington.
"Newsmax is one of the key projects we are working on, and we are honored to promote the Newsmax brand across Europe. We are starting with Eastern Europe, we have expanded into the Western Balkans, and we also have an office in Washington. As for cooperation with the U.S., our goal has been to build the best possible ties with an American company, as well as with institutions and digital companies," Lucic said.
He added that it is clear that American companies are global leaders and that the development of artificial intelligence will take place there.

"From that perspective – and from the standpoint of our Cybersecurity Project – our relationship and cooperation with American institutions is extremely important. We have now outperformed the competition and become the undisputed number one. We are a small country and a small operator, but we are persistent in building strong relationships with the main creators of artificial-intelligence strategy," he emphasized.
"Sooner or later, every company will be attacked"
He added that it is important to stay close to the biggest projects.
"It is important for us to meet the standards that American companies uphold. Cybersecurity will be one of the biggest challenges in the future, and for us it represents a major opportunity for additional revenue because, in this geopolitical war, states are investing in cyberattacks. Sooner or later, every company will be attacked, and when that is combined with AI, it can completely destroy your business. This is a major opportunity, but also a responsibility, because when you offer a cybersecurity solution to companies in the Western Balkans, they expect you to guarantee it – so it is best to stay in contact with American institutions," Lucic said.
He added that he is proud that Telekom Srbija has managed, through five years of continuous work, to establish a recognizable brand in Washington.
"We are well received in the State Department and the Department of Commerce, and even in Congress. We have managed to build the image of a company with a clear business outlook, one that wants to expand into the U.S. market and – using AI – achieve what we set out to do: close cooperation with digital platforms, and to be at the source of knowledge and work when it comes to artificial intelligence and cybersecurity," he said.
"If you had a number with any other operator, you can transfer it to our carrier"
He stressed that the acquisition of United Group this year was key to the consolidation of Serbia.
The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Serbia, Andreas von Beckerath, stated that the EU’s message to Serbia is simple: Serbia’s future lies in Europe, and the time for investment and reform is now.
The Russian owners have agreed to sell their 56.15 percent stake in the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS), said Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic.
"We moved new projects to next year, but in any case, we will launch a mobile operator here that will cover the entire U.S. territory, so all users – especially those with roots in Serbia and other Balkan countries – will be able to become our customers and port their numbers. If you had a number with any other operator, you can transfer it to our carrier," explained the Telekom Srbija director.
He emphasized that free calling to Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina will be available, and that people "will be able to call you without limits."
"And when they come to Serbia or Bosnia and Herzegovina, there will be no roaming, and it will feel as if they are at home. We are the only legal distributor of all channels from the region, and we offer a wide array of content – films, series, sports – in a high-quality manner. I am confident that the U.S. market will fully recognize this," he said.
"We have expanded into the strongest countries of Western Europe and the U.S."
He also invited all Newsmax viewers in the U.S. to become customers.
"They won’t regret it, because this U.S. market SIM card will be attractive and competitive with other American companies. We are completing this expansion cycle. I am pleased that we, as a small company from Serbia, have expanded into the strongest countries of Western Europe and the U.S., and are becoming a major company," Lucic said.
He added that to grow even further, the company must highlight and promote the areas of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and startups.
"That is why I am so active here, working on establishing strong connections so we can be at the source of the newest solutions – and become partners, just as we are Newsmax’s partner for Europe – with various American companies in Europe in this field as well," Lucic concluded.
