Congressman Harrigan to Newsmax Balkans: Serbia and the United States have strong opportunities to deepen partnership
U.S. Congressman Pat Harrigan, speaking to Newsmax Balkans on the occasion of Serbia’s Statehood Day, said that relations between Serbia and the United States hold significant potential for further development, particularly in the fields of economic cooperation, technology, and regional stability.
Harrigan emphasized that both countries face important shared opportunities ahead and that continued cooperation could bring mutual benefits.
"I believe there is a great deal of opportunity in front of us as we continue moving forward together. There is opportunity for Serbia, and there is great opportunity for the United States as well. We can mutually benefit from the cooperation we share, which continues to grow", Harrigan told Newsmax Balkans.
The President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, met at the Presidential Palace in Ankara with the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Manja Grcic, Director of the Tanjug news agency and co-owner of K1 Television and the communications agency Majo Public, has been elected as the new Director General of Radio Television of Serbia (RTS), Branislav Klanscek, a member of the RTS Managing Board, confirmed to the Newsmax Balkans portal.
Speaking about the future of bilateral relations, the congressman highlighted the importance of understanding shared strategic interests, especially regarding regional stability and the emerging global economy.
"We all need to better understand what serves our most mutual interests, particularly when it comes to regional stability and the new economy. There is tremendous potential in high-tech industries, artificial intelligence, and manufacturing. We should strengthen our partnership wherever possible because it creates benefits for both Serbia and the United States", he said.
Congratulating the people of Serbia on Statehood Day, Harrigan also underscored the historical ties between the two nations, recalling their alliance during World War II.
"History is incredibly important not only to Serbia but also to the United States, as it reflects the strength and cohesion of our relationship. I thought it was especially fitting today to speak about Operation Halyard during World War II, when Serbian civilians, at great personal risk, sheltered and cared for American airmen who had been shot down while supporting Allied operations" Harrigan stated.
He noted that, working alongside the Office of Strategic Services - the predecessor of today’s U.S. special operations forces - more than 500 American troops were successfully evacuated during the mission.
"That moment in history helped forge the strong relationship between the American and Serbian peoples and should help guide how we think about our shared future", Harrigan concluded in his statement to Newsmax Balkans.

Dok iz Srbije stižu poruke da je finansijski sistem stabilan, pitamo – da li bi građani ipak trebalo da imaju makar malu finansijsku rezervu za nepredviđene situacije?
