The European Union calls on Serbia to submit negotiating positions for Chapters 16 and 19
Hungarian Ambassador to the EU Odor Balint stated that he signed a letter on behalf of the Council of the European Union, inviting Serbia to submit its negotiating positions for Chapters 16 and 19 under Cluster 3, which focuses on competitiveness and inclusive growth.
This step represents significant progress in Serbia's EU accession negotiations and the enlargement process, which are key priorities of Hungary's EU presidency, he announced on the X platform.
"I signed a letter inviting Serbia to submit its negotiating positions for Chapters 16 and 19 within Cluster 3: Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth. A significant step that encourages Serbia's accession negotiations and the enlargement process," he wrote.
The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, stated in Brussels that Serbia could soon make progress in its EU accession talks, given some positive assessments from the European Commission and the fact that its alignment with the EU’s foreign policy is somewhat better than before.
Emanuele Giofre, the Head of the EU Delegation, stated that Serbia has made progress in aligning its foreign and security policies with the EU compared to last year, adding that alignment in this area is one of the most concrete indicators of a candidate country's geostrategic orientation.
The Minister of Labor, Eployment, Veterans and Social Affairs, Nemanja Starovic, stated to Newsmax Balkans that Serbia has fulfilled its obligations and rightfully expects the European Union to fulfill its commitments by opening Cluster 3.
As a reminder, EU ambassadors agreed to send a letter to Serbia, marking the first step in the procedure to open Cluster 3.
The letter requests Belgrade to submit its negotiating positions for the chapters that should be opened within Cluster 3.
According to some announcements, this could happen as early as January or February, but the conclusions do not specify deadlines, only stating that the EU will reconsider the issue "based on significant progress" by Serbia, particularly in key areas such as the rule of law and the normalization of relations with Pristina.
