"From my perspective, I want Serbia to be part of the EU. However, the truth is that deepening European integration has become more important than enlargement. It is a necessity. The EU’s response to crises has been more about deepening rather than expanding. This is quite clear. In this context, it is difficult for a country like yours, like Serbia, to gain entry into the EU. That is entirely true," said Cluzel, who is also the editor of the oldest French journal on politics and parliamentarism, as well as the director of the Eranos Academy.
Cluzel emphasized the need to retain hope, "knowing that, in this context, we must work on Serbia’s evolution, adapting it even further to the constraints of the EU."
"So, prepare your country to understand and grasp the reasons behind the crises, the difficulties that France and other EU countries are experiencing. At the same time, perhaps Serbia should not only proclaim that the EU is a necessity for it, but also recognize that the EU can help it find the necessary responses to these crises. This would allow everyone – both Serbs and other Europeans – to live in harmony," Cluzel stated.
