Consul of Serbia in Israel: Abducted Man of Serbian Origin is Expected to Be Part of the Exchange in the Second Phase
Honorary Consul of Serbia in Israel, Aleksandar Nikolic, told Newsmax Balkans that the abducted Alon Ohel (23), a young pianist of Serbian descent from Novi Sad, is expected to be part of the exchange in the second phase of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
"In this phase, young civilian men are supposed to be exchanged, and this is exactly the category he falls into. After this, the priority will be young male soldiers," explained the consul.
According to him, negotiations were supposed to start on the 16th day of the first phase of the ceasefire.
"That was a few days ago, on February 3rd. We will see how things unfold," Nikolic said.
The war between Israel and Palestine has been ongoing for over a year. During this time, civilians have suffered, the sick have died without medicine, and children have gone missing. Among the abducted is Alon Ohel (23).
Israel’s Ambassador to Serbia, Avivit Bar-Ilan, said in an interview with Newsmax Balkans that the war in Gaza will not end until Hamas returns the 101 Israeli hostages, kidnapped in southern Israel in October of last year.
He also mentioned that based on a video recorded on October 7th, when the war broke out, Ohel was abducted alive.
"Unfortunately, since then, no additional videos have been released to the public, nor any statements from his captors. So, all efforts are being made to ensure this happens as soon as possible," the consul emphasized.
When asked if there are any other Serbian citizens among the captives, Nikolic stated that there are not.
He added that since the ceasefire, life has completely returned to normal.
