Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija at the UN Headquarters in Geneva highlights the persecution of Serbs

Petkovic spoke with his team at an event during the high segment of the 58th session of the Human Rights Council.

At the event "Serious Violations of the Human Rights of Serbs and Other Non-Albanians in Kosovo and Metohija," held at the UN building in Geneva and attended by numerous representatives of UN member countries, Petkovic was joined by Dalibor Jevtic, Vice President of the Serbian List.

Also present were Marija and Dara Radosavljevic from Doljani near Zvecan. Dara and her underage brother Kristijan were victims of police brutality by the Kosovo Police on June 17, 2023, who viciously beat them while they were riding ATVs.

While Dara and Marija Radosavljevic shared their difficult experiences and details of the brutality with the participants of the event, Director Petkovic cited numerous other examples of violations of the rights of Serbs and non-Albanians in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as cases of flagrant violations of agreements and accords from the Brussels dialogue by Pristina. This also includes a worrying rise in ethnically motivated incidents since Albin Kurti came to power in Pristina.

In this regard, Petkovic called for more significant engagement from UN member states to mobilize the international community to urgently stop the persecution of Serbs and non-Albanians in Kosovo and Metohija. He also called for consistent exercise of UNMIK's mandate in accordance with Resolution 1244.

Dalibor Jevtic, Vice President of the Serbian List, specifically referred to the events of January 6, 2023, when Serbian boys Stefan and Milos Stojanovic were shot on Christmas Eve in Gotovusa near Strpce, emphasizing that no one has been held accountable for the attack.

This event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the UN in Geneva.
