Minister Djuric: From UN Headquarters, Serbia Sent the Message That It Is Strong, Stable, Responsible, and Principled

At the close of the third day of Serbia’s participation in the UN General Assembly session, Djuric said that Serbia had made full use of the opportunity to present itself properly within the world organization, during what he described as an “unprecedented diplomatic marathon.”

“Serbia has sent the message that we are a country that is strong, that is free, that is stable, and that is part of the solution – both when it comes to regional challenges, meaning stability in our immediate neighborhood through a responsible approach, and when it comes to various global issues, where we are among those who hold firmly to principles,” Djuric told reporters in New York.

He pointed out that this could also be heard in the speech of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, which he described as “carefully calibrated,” very well received, and welcomed by representatives of countries from different ideological profiles and from all parts of the world.

“The common denominator among them is the desire for respect for international law, preservation of peace, and equal treatment among states – which is also our principle,” Djuric emphasized.

He noted that Serbian officials had held a wide array of meetings within 72 hours.

“We had a meeting with the U.S. Secretary of State. I also met with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov. We held meetings with the EU High Representative Kaja Kallas,” said Djuric.

He added that meetings were also held with a number of other countries and that agreements had been signed with Qatar, Jordan, and others.

“We expect around 15 more different agreements, including agreements on visa liberalization with certain countries. Tomorrow I expect we will finalize full visa liberalization with Honduras for all citizens, and with some countries we have already achieved this in recent days,” the Serbian foreign minister stated.

Djuric added that discussions also covered Kosovo and Metohija, the position of the Serbian people in Republika Srpska, as well as economic cooperation.
