The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, announced after consultations with representatives of PS, SVM, and SPP that parliamentary elections could be called no earlier than the end of May, and no later than March next year.

"Formally and legally, parliamentary elections could be called as early as the end of May, May 31st, and at the latest in March next year. If they were called for March next year, then they would not be snap elections, but regular ones. And I promised the people that I would call them earlier, and I will try to ensure they are held before the end of this year", Vucic said.
He stated that he invited political parties for consultations because, as he said, he believes humanity is on the brink of an abyss and that serious decisions are needed.
"Let us try to act responsibly in such a situation and do what is best for our country, what is best for our people. And I already know, no one needs to tell me, that most parties of the former regime will refuse this, because ‘Vucic is buying time,’ or whatever they think he is doing, always starting from themselves, they reach such conclusions", Vucic said, addressing journalists at the Presidency after meetings with representatives of the Movement of Socialists, the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians, and the Party of Justice and Reconciliation.
As he said, he is once again offering parties the opportunity to come and express their views, and perhaps also hear something about the global situation and everything we are facing.
"Those who said they will not attend talks are irresponsible"
Vucic said it is irresponsible and very unserious that opposition parties announced they would not attend the consultations he called, stressing that Serbia must be the most important priority, above narrow personal and party interests.
Local elections in ten municipalities have confirmed the dominance of the list led by President Aleksandar Vucic, while the opposition is still searching for a clear alternative, analyst Zoran Vuletic told Newsmax Balkans.
Speaker of Parliament Ana Brnabic said that early parliamentary elections will be held when the only competent authority, the President of the Republic, decides, and that he is currently dealing with very important issues.
"They have created such conditions that tomorrow no one will ever come to talks with them. Very foolish, very irresponsible, and very unserious. This country must be more important than both us and them. Serbia must come first -not personal, party, particular, or any other interests. If someone invites you to talks, and that someone is authorized to do so, perhaps I might tell them something they do not know or have not heard", Vucic said.
Consultations with party representatives
In addition to the Movement of Socialists, President Vucic invited the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians and the Party of Justice and Reconciliation to consultations.
Earlier, the President of the National Assembly of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, stated that Vucic would initiate a social dialogue with all political actors on two topics, snap parliamentary elections and Serbia’s overall foreign policy direction.
Brnabic said that President Vucic is once again extending a hand and calling for dialogue as the president of all citizens, in conditions of extraordinary circumstances worldwide and at a time when the world faces the threat of a major economic crisis.
The topics of the meeting included demands from part of the public for snap parliamentary elections, as well as relations with the European Union and Serbia’s actions in complex international circumstances regarding security and energy.
