Serbian minister of finance: 28 countries have applied for Expo 2027 in Belgrade so far
Sinisa Mali, the first vice president of the government and minister of finance, stated that 28 countries have applied to participate in the specialized Expo exhibition in 2027.
Countries from Africa, Asia, Europe, and America have applied so far.
"Since the day we received the Expo flag, when we brought it to Belgrade, which was around the third week of November, until today, exactly 28 countries from all over the world, both in writing and verbally, have confirmed their participation in Expo 2027 in Belgrade. This is far more countries than we expected in such a short time, but it is great news for the citizens of Serbia," said Mali for Tanjug.
He noted that the specialized Expo exhibition in Astana in 2017 had the highest number of exhibitors, i.e., participating countries - 117.
Christopher Hill, the U.S. Ambassador to Serbia, stated that there are no indications that sanctions will be imposed on the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS).
The Director of the company "Expo 2027," Dusan Borovcanin, handed over the flag of the specialized exhibition Expo to the Prime Minister of Serbia and the envoy of the President of the Republic, Miloš Vucevic.
"We want at least 120, 130 in Serbia. This is a good sign and a great opportunity for us. So, Expo is our greatest development opportunity to present ourselves in the right way, to raise wages, pensions, and minimum salaries through the Serbia 2027 project, but also to improve the infrastructure in our country. This is an opportunity we cannot miss," emphasized Mali.
He added that the Expo site in Surcin is currently the largest construction site in this part of Europe.
"We have 1,500 workers who are working hard every day. We have 250 units of machinery. It’s like a little ant colony, something is always happening there, slowly and surely we are coming out with work above the ground. We have very short deadlines, until December 1, 2026, the pavilions' keys must be handed over to Expo participants. I expect a record number based on the 28 applications we already have. A big job awaits us in the next two years, just 24 months, it’s a job we must complete, and we will certainly finish it for the pride of all citizens of Serbia," emphasized Mali.
The Expo 2027 exhibition "Play for Humanity: Sports and Music for All" will be held in Belgrade from May 15 to August 15, 2027.
