President of Serbia Discusses Sanctions and Energy Stability with U.S. Under Secretary for Energy
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, announced after discussions with José Fernandez, the U.S. Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, that there are no good news for Serbian citizens but assured that Serbia will maintain stability and energy security.
Posting on his Instagram account, Vucic stated that sanctions were a significant topic of discussion but added that he would be able to reveal full details in the coming days.
"Certainly, I don’t have much good news for the citizens of Serbia, but Serbia will preserve its stability and energy security," Vucic said.
Regarding the announcement that the United States may impose sanctions on the Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS), the U.S. Embassy could not comment on the news but emphasized that the risks of cooperating with Russian companies, especially in the energy sector, have been well-known for a long time.
He described the conversation with Fernandez as open, honest, and challenging.
"We discussed important issues of bilateral cooperation between Serbia and the United States, especially in the energy sector. Sanctions were a particular focus, and I will be able to disclose complete details within a few days," Vucic wrote.
