Brnabić: If there is a majority vote of no confidence on the referendum, Vucic will resign on the same day
If the referendum shows that fifty percent plus one vote of the citizens who voted say they have no confidence in the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, he will resign on the same day, said the President of the National Assembly of Serbia, Ana Brnabic.
"Here is a democratic opportunity for the opposition in Serbia, a democratic chance to achieve their ultimate goal and resolve all their issues, that is, to remove Aleksandar Vucic from the position of President of the Republic of Serbia. They no longer need to make threats. They no longer need to chase us through the streets. They no longer need to abuse every tragedy that occurs in our country. They no longer need to create tensions. They no longer need to harass all citizens of the Republic of Serbia," Brnabic said at a press conference where she submitted 100 signatures from the ruling majority MPs for holding an advisory referendum on the President's trust.
Tensions in society have been ongoing since the tragedies of May 2023, and they are significant because the parliament, as a place for dialogue, is not fulfilling its role, said the President of the National Assembly, Ana Brnabic, in the show Sinteza.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, announced after discussions with José Fernandez, the U.S. Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, that there are no good news for Serbian citizens but assured that Serbia will maintain stability and energy security.
"CRTA, which is the most credible according to the opposition and the Government, for their security and intelligence agencies, published the results of a survey four days ago. They stated that it was conducted on December 20th and 28th of last year on a nationally representative sample of 1,030 people, and it showed that the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, no longer enjoys the majority trust of Serbian citizens. In case of a referendum on trust, according to CRTA's survey, it would show that 52 percent would withhold trust, while only 34 percent would express trust in President Vucic," said Brnabic.
She added that the SNS, as the largest parliamentary group, "neither wants, nor needs, nor has the right to pretend that nothing has happened or changed, and ignore the survey results".
"The ball is in our court. Now we must do our part and confirm or reject the survey results. Here you go, citizens, 100 signatures from MPs of the largest parliamentary group. Here you go, dear citizens, signatures supporting the initiative that I assume will come from opposition MPs, based on the survey they ordered and paid for, if not them, then someone else," the President of the Assembly emphasized.
Let us remind you, Brnabic announced on Tuesday that she would submit 100 signatures from the ruling majority MPs today for holding an advisory referendum on the President's trust.
Earlier, President Aleksandar Vucic, in a post on Instagram, called on opposition parties to gather signatures for holding an advisory referendum on the President of Serbia.
He added that opposition parties need to submit only 67 signatures, and as he stated, they have more than 80.
