Bundestag Member: Elections Will Not Change Germany's Policy Toward Serbia, It May Even Tighten

Jacqueline Nastic, a member of the populist left-wing party "Alliance Sara Wagenknecht" (BSW) in the German Bundestag, stated in an interview with Newsmax Balkans that she does not expect Germany's policy toward Serbia to "change or even improve" after the elections in Germany.

Bundestag Member: Elections Will Not Change Germany's Policy Toward Serbia, It May Even Tighten

"According to polls, it looks like Friedrich Merz and his CDU/CSU will be the future chancellor. This will continue the current policy toward Serbia, and it may even be intensified. The CDU has taken a clear stance since (Angela) Merkel's time: full support for (Albin) Kurti and Pristina, maximum pressure on Belgrade. Anyone who hopes for a balanced policy here will most likely be disappointed," Nastic assessed.

According to certain polls ahead of the upcoming elections on February 23, a third of voters are undecided. Nastic says she is confident that the young party she belongs to will enter the Bundestag, despite what she describes as massive campaigns against them that have been ongoing for months.

"We, as the Alliance Sara Wagenknecht – Reason and Justice, are dedicated to a wide range of issues, and we also want to reach out to demonstrators and non-voters. We do not fit the typical left-right mold and want to attract people from different backgrounds," Nastic emphasized.

When it comes to the issues that dominated the election campaign, Nastic mentions that topics like the economy and migration concern many citizens.

"German industry is on the brink of collapse due to the completely wrong policies of the 'traffic light' government. When it comes to growth, Germany is at the bottom of the industrially developed G7 countries. We have the highest electricity prices in Europe. Many companies are reducing the number of jobs or relocating abroad," she stated.

According to her, Germany is again facing a recession in 2025.

"Given this development, many people fear for their jobs and economic security. At the same time, there is growing concern over the increasing number of migrants and heightened Islamist attacks. Criminals without residence rights are rarely deported. After the brutal attacks in Mannheim, Magdeburg, Solingen, Aschaffenburg, and Munich, many people justifiably fear for their safety," Nastic stressed.

She added that the BSW believes migration must take place in a controlled manner because absorption capacities are limited.

"At the same time, all refugees and migrants should not be doubted. The general suspicion, hate speech, and racism against migrants, as practiced by the right-wing, must be consistently suppressed," she emphasized.

"Pristina Blocks the Community of Serb Municipalities with the Implicit Approval of the West"

Speaking about Kosovo and Metohija, Nastic told Newsmax Balkans that "while the international community, especially the European Union, repeatedly calls for cooperation and

understanding from Serbia, when it comes to the oppression of Serbs and other minorities in Kosovo and Metohija, people turn a blind eye and remain silent."

Nastic believes that "further independence of the Serbian minority, which could result in the possible establishment of a Kosovo Republika Srpska, must be prevented at all costs." "Although the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities was agreed upon in 2013 and the international community has repeatedly called for it, Pristina has long blocked its establishment with the tacit approval of the West. This goes even further: Kurti's far-right government recently violently shut down Serbian administration in ten municipalities. The EU sharply criticized this. However, there were no consequences. Anyone interested in negotiations and dialogue must treat both sides equally, which the West, and Germany in particular, does not do," she said.

Nastic added that dialogue "is often just a facade."

"The West officially calls for the formation of an association of Serb communities, but they still allow Albin Kurti, who constantly opposes its creation, to continue on his own path. Although pressure on him and his nationalist government has occasionally increased, there have never been real consequences," she emphasized.

The Bundestag member noted that whenever Pristina makes unilateral decisions – whether it's expelling Serbian officials or suppressing the Serbian population in the north – it is still said that both sides must continue to be "ready for dialogue."

"In the end, it all comes down to Serbia being forced to yield to the interests of the Serbian population in Kosovo, while Pristina can largely maintain its hardline, uncooperative stance. The consequence of these unfair, as they are unilateral, calls for readiness to dialogue is that the West and Germany observe the systematic exclusion, persecution, and ethnic expulsion of Serbs from Kosovo. This has nothing to do with the rule of law that Kosovo is often portrayed as," Nastic concluded.
