Indictment Raised Against Minister Vesic and 12 Others Over the Death of 16 People at Novi Sad Railway Station
The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad has filed an indictment against thirteen individuals for serious crimes against public safety, in connection with the collapse of the station canopy on November 1, 2024, when 16 people were killed and one person was seriously injured.
The Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad announced that on September 16, 2025, following the completion of a supplementary investigation, it filed an indictment against thirteen people, including former Minister of Construction Goran Vesic, on reasonable suspicion that they committed criminal acts legally qualified as serious crimes against public safety.

The indictment covers G. V., former Minister at the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure; J. T., former Acting Director General of Serbian Railway Infrastructure JSC; A. D., former Acting Assistant Minister at the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure; N. S., former Director General of Serbian Railway Infrastructure JSC; S. The prosecution has charged them with enabling the use of Wing B of the station building despite the facility not having an occupancy permit, failing to maintain the structure, and negligence during the design and renovation phases of the station.
The Prosecutor’s Office proposed to the Higher Court in Novi Sad that all defendants be remanded in custody due to the great public disturbance that could endanger the fairness of the proceedings, and for some defendants also due to the risk of repeat offenses.
It was further proposed that the court award property claims to the injured parties, impose bans on professional activity, and oblige the defendants to reimburse the costs of the criminal proceedings.
"The indictment is fully supported by evidence," the Prosecutor’s Office stated, adding that it expects the indictment to soon enter into legal force, after which a public trial and the presentation of evidence by both prosecution and defense would follow.
